I was working from home today and I noticed this plane flying towards me and then turn suddenly onto a new heading. Then the phone rang and when I looked back out the window, I had noticed that the plane was doing a 180 and clearly returning from wherever it had come from. I've never seen that happen before, so I snapped a pic on the camera and thought I'd share it with you all.
Something is clearly wrong that has necessitated them having to turn right around, I only hope it wasn't too serious and that they've all landed safely.

Real nice picture. I agree...this isn't normal procedure at that flightlevel! Maybe it has got something to do with the bump in the contrail a few minutes before the right turn started. The rest of the contrail is as straight as a ruler so this bump shouldn't be there. I wonder what happened but....we will never know!

Don't where the picture was made, but could it have been a visual approach on Schiphol? Big jets also fly downwind.
@Frank, I think the bump was caused by the plane passing. There are 2 contrails with the same bump.
It was taken South of runway 06, so he wouldn't have been turning downwind for anything. This was definitely someone doing a 180 and heading back from whence they came.
